Adaptation to the urban context
With the new build, a separate address is being created directly in the vicinity of the TU Dresden campus for the development of adaptive systems (Entwicklung Adaptiver Systeme – EAS) department of the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits. The main ideas for the design are: the formation of a clear, urban building edge by the closed cube; the layout concept with positioning of the public functions such as the cafeteria, workshop, library and institute management on the busy Münchner Straße.

By contrast, the scientific research area with laboratories and workshops is located on the quieter side of Bayreuther Straße. An atrium across floors connects the building sections, provides access and creates space for informal communication. The planned building shape as a block edge will continue in the subsequent construction phases and thus create a building enclosure in the medium term as well as a self-contained, non-public open space assigned to the institute.
